Add a Thumbnail

Thumbnails provide a visual preview to your post topic and content when viewed as an excerpt, in the blogroll or in a search result. Thumbnail images DO NOT automatically appear in your full post entry. To have the same image as your thumbnail and IN YOUR FULL ENTRY, you must embed it in both places. ALL THUMBNAIL IMAGES MUST ALREADY BE UPLOADED TO THE MEDIA LIBRARY (see instructions below).
To see an example of a post with and without a thumbnail: CLICK HERE

  1. Make sure your desired image is already uploaded to the Media Library and locate its URL on 23HAM.
    ie. http://www.23ham.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/img_0143-300×224.jpg
  2. In custom fields, underneath your blog entry, select “Image” from drop-down menu.
  3. Copy portion the url following “www.23HAM.com/”
  4. Enter that portion of the url as the “Value” of “Image” in custom fields.
  5. Must be of the format:
    wp-content/uploads/YYYY/MM/imagetitle.jpg
    wp-content/uploads/2009/02/img_0143-300×224.jpg
  6. Click “Add Custom Field”

Add an Excerpt

Create an Excerpt that either mimics or summarizes your post entry. Excerpts are important for different reasons. If you don’t input one yourself, WordPress will automatically generate one when needed. This will be the first 300 (?) words of your post and NO images or video embeds. If you want images or video to appear, you must manually enter them in the excerpt field. The easiest way is to copy and paste from the HTML tab of your content. Excerpts can also be completely different than your post.

Add Media

Before adding media to your post, the media file must already be uploaded to the 23HAM Media Library or exist somewhere on the internet.

ALL MEDIA MUST HAVE A MAXIMUM PUBLISHED WIDTH OF 475 PIXELS. Original files are be wider than 475, but all images and video must be resized in the html to be ≤475.

  4. Name, size and position the image correctly (this can be modified later)
  5. At the bottom of the image uploader, click “Insert to Post”

To modify (size, postion, etc) a previously inserted image. Click on the image in the post content edit field. Two icons will appear on the top. One to edit/modify, one to delete.
In the edit/modify pop up window, click on “advanced settings” for more options (exact pixel dimensions, margins, etc)

Adding Video to a Post
